6 Ayurvedic Tips for Better Digestion

Teachings of Ayurveda centres human well-being to their ability to digest whatever they take from the environment. This not only includes food materials but also the experiences and emotions that surround you. In Ayurveda, Agni is the digestive fire that helps in the digestion process. And the way you change your approach to food affects your physical well-being. Here are some ways to improve your Agni:

1. Sip Warm Water

Take small sips from a cup of warm water throughout the day. This should be the first thing you do after waking up and at least thirty minutes prior to your big meal. Warm water helps in cleansing your digestive system and boosts the secretion of digestive juices.

2. Use Spices

If you thought that spices only improved flavor then you were wrong. Spices also improve digestion. Ayurveda lists down a number of spices that can boost your digestive system. Include spices such as turmeric, ginger, rock salt, coriander, and black pepper in your food for boosting your digestive health.

3. Meditate

Meditation is not only beneficial for your mind but also for your digestive system. When you meditate, the homeostasis of your body is restored. This also includes the process of controlling your digestion. Meditate for at least 20 to 30 minutes in the morning and the evening to achieve maximum benefit.

4. Never Overeat

Avoid over stuffing your stomach with food. When you do that, your stomach cannot break it down properly. And for doing so, the stomach produces more digestive juice which causes acid reflux. Moreover, this may also lead to gas formation. As per ayurvedic principles, you should leave one-third of your stomach empty to leave room for digestion.

5. Sip Ginger Tea

In Ayurveda, ginger is known a natural remedy for digestive issues. Ginger helps in soothing the intestinal muscles, thus relieving stomach cramp and gas build-up. Sip on ginger tea throughout the day. Ginger facilitates the movement of food from stomach to small intestine; stimulate saliva and production of gastric enzymes.

6.  Eat lunch king-size

Your digestive system is at peak during the afternoon. It is the time when the secretion of digestive juices is the highest. So, eat your largest meal in the afternoon. In the evening, your body starts preparing to retire for the day and begins to slow down its processes. Your digestive system is the weakest in the evening. Avoid making it work hard by eating heavy meals in the evening. Otherwise, it will leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable throughout the night.

Also, get active. This stimulates your metabolism and relaxes your mind.
These tips will help boost your Agni and strengthen your digestive abilities.
