Suffering from knee pain? Try this Ayurveda

Knee pain is something that troubles almost every individual in their mid-sixties. Sometimes people can treat these knee problems with a few simple exercises or few light handed massages. Knees are a very important part of our body as they bear the weight of the entire body and thus we need to take care of them. Here are few tips on how cure knee pain with ayurvedic measures.

Massages

Ayurvedic therapeutic massages with oils help in easing the pain from the knee and releasing tension. We can choose different kinds of oil depending on the dosa type. Massage increases circulation of blood and decreases inflammation around the knees. It also helps our bodies natural healing process.

Turmeric

Turmeric is not only used for cooking but has a variety of health benefits which science has started backing which had been always mentioned by Ayurveda for quite a long time. Turmeric helps in healing the joints be it any kind of joint injury viz. knee joint, shoulder joint, elbow joint, or any other kind of joint. Taking turmeric with milk helps in joint pain a lot and raw turmeric intake is also great for the joints.

Ginger

Ginger is another plant that is widely used in Ayurveda. It has lots of health benefits but due to its anti-inflammatory properties it is used for knee pain. People have widely benefited from ginger in curing or relieving themselves of their knee pain.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is known to cure arthritis related symptoms like pain and joint swelling in people with rheumatoid arthritis. But ashwagandha should be taken only after consulting an ayurvedic medical practitioner.

Lubricating the knee joint

Sometimes the liquid in the knee joint dries out resulting in acute knee pain.  Foods rich in healthy fats like salmon, trout, mackerel, avocados, olive oil, almonds, walnuts, chia seeds contain omega-3 fatty acids which assist in joint-lubrication. Drinking plenty of water can also help in joint lubrication.

 Triphala

Triphala is a combination of Indian gooseberry, black myrobalan, beleric myrobalan. Triphala is also known as “the nectar of life” and is considered to have healing powers. The herbs in triphala have anti-inflammatory properties. It provides nutrients that help strengthen the bones and flush out excess uric acid, which can lead to inflammation, thus providing relief from gout, joint pain, arthritis and other problems.

Januvasti

Januvasti is an ancient ayurvedic practice specifically to chronic knee pain. This effective treatment involves pooling warm ayurvedic oil over the knee, support by a gram flour mix. This soothing treatment works to relax and repair the tissue and joints and is often followed by a massage.

Guggulu

Guggulu in Sanskrit means ‘protects from disease’ and is a staple of Ayurveda. This herb helps in smooth movement of joints and improves the immune system as well.

Exercise

Little bit of exercise does not hurt anyone. There are many exercises which if done regularly can improve various knee conditions if not operatable conditions are present. Various yoga asanas are also their which if done regularly can ease joint pain and manage arthritic conditions.

These are some ways by which we can treat knee pain with the help of Ayurveda. With consistent effort and long treatments and a calm mind my situations can be converted.
